Yeah, it's been a while since I've blogged. This blog has mostly focused on political news and I'm kinda burned out on that right now. Maybe that will change. Not sure. Maybe I'll try to post a few things about my other interests. They would probably be just as boring though. :)
Some things on my mind today:
Super Bowl
Well, I'm pretty disappointed that the Giants couldn't keep it together at the end of the season, but I can't say I'm surprised. I think the Super Bowl will be good this year. I expect the Steelers to win, but would kinda like to see the Cardinals surprise everyone (again). The Cards will have to put a lot of points on the board early if they want to win. The Steelers just have to play like they've been playing for...well...all year.
Changing of the guard
Yeah, today is inauguration. I think it's pretty interesting how the media is hyping Obama up so much. Everyone expects this man to save us from all of our troubles. I thought that might die down a little bit after he was elected. After all, we all realize that he's just one man, right? And that he has to deal with some crazy fools in Congress to get anything done....right? Guess not everyone realizes that.
Very few are focusing on how he has already had to backtrack on many of his campaign promises. If he keeps doing that, many of the things I've predicted will happen. He will anger his base. Backtracking on immediately shutting down Guantanamo Bay has probably already fired up a lot of people.
I also think it's pretty interesting that pretty much everyone agrees that tax cuts are going to help us work through the remainder of the economic mess we are in. Funny how that happens.
I'm also getting pretty mad about all the hatred toward President Bush. He has dealt with a LOT during the last eight years. There is way too much history being rewritten concerning him already. We all need to put ourselves in his shoes and think about how we might have handled the situations he's been put in. Sure he's made some mistakes. Have any of you made any mistakes over the last eight years? Give him a break. He's not going to be remembered as the best president in our history. But he's definitely not the worst either. He helped bring us through some really rough times. He stuck with it. I don't know that I could have done the same. And I hope that Obama (and all of us for that matter) has learned a bit about courage and humility from George W Bush.
Take some time to pray for our country today. Ask the Lord to guide our new president. And to use the spirit of change that is so prevalent right now in a way that leads more people to Him.
