Question: What are you doing to help the environment?

Well. actually, not a whole lot.

I don't use compact fluorescent lights because I can't get past the warnings on the box (if you have no idea what i am talking about, take some time to read up on how dangerous CFLs can be).

I don't buy carbon offsets and likely never will. I don't think the amount of harm we are supposedly doing to our environment can truly be measured. And if it could, what's the guarantee that we can fix it by planting trees (or by paying someone to plant them)?

I don't plant trees. I don't even have any trees in my yard. However, I would like to plant a couple in my yard sometime. I doubt I'll ever participate in an event where people plant trees just for the environment though.

I don't drive a hybrid. Too expensive right now. There are only a couple of models where you can expect the premium on price to match the gas savings. Plus I'm perfectly happy with the payment I have on the vehicles I have now that get around 25 mpg. Which is $0 per month.

And I don't take public transit. It's not offered in my area. If it was, I doubt I'd take it every day. I wouldn't mind car pooling if someone wanted to keep my 10 hour day work schedule. Even then, not sure I would do that every day.

So I guess you get the point. I'm clearly not all that concerned about the environment. Do I support measures do use clean energy? Sure. As long as they don't force me into something that alters my lifestyle too much. I'd love to reduce our dependence on oil, coal, etc. I'm all for wind and solar energy . But only when the technologies have been established enough to make the transition easy and not too costly.

The main problem I have with most of the environmental talk today is all of the scare tactics that are being used. When I was a kid, there was a hole in the Ozone. Now, there is Global Warming. I believe we were supposedly in danger of an Ice Age before we had a hole in the Ozone. What will they find next when they determine that the Earth maybe isn't warming like they thought it was? And what will they try to force on us to "keep it from getting worst", or to "protect our planet so our kids and grandkids can enjoy it"?
